An unlicensed minibus driver who is alleged to have caused the death of a 20-year-old woman has been charged. He was released on bail.
Patrick Rudolph Edwards appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court where he was slapped with two charges.
The first charge stated that on May 28, 2020, at Rupert Craig Highway, East Coast Demerara, he drove minibus BWW 6242 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Sabita Sukhoo.
It was further alleged that on the same day and at the same location, he drove minibus BWW 6242 when he was not the holder of a drivers’ license.
He denied both charges; he is expected to make his next court appearance on June 30.
According to reports, on the day in question, Edwards was driving minibus BWW 6242 when it collided with another vehicle causing the bus to topple.
The impact caused several persons to be flung onto the roadway, receiving injuries.
The 20-year-old woman of 123 Lusignan Pasture, East Coast Demerara, was picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where she was pronounced dead.
The matter was then reported and following an investigation, the driver was arrested and charged.
