An affiliate of the A Partnership for National Unity +Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC) government has filed an application at the Court of Appeal seeking a number of orders. It is more than likely that the individual is seeking an injunction to block Chairperson of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), retired Judge Claudete Singh from declaring the results of the March 02, 2020 General and Regional Elections.
Guyana Standard understands that although the application has been filed, a date for hearing is yet to be fixed by the Court of Appeal; no injunction has been granted. In light of this, GECOM can proceed with its meeting today when it is expected that Chief Elections Officer (CEO), Keith Lowenfield will present his report on the tabulated votes garnered from the National Recount. Earlier this week, the Chairperson instructed Lowenfield to prepare the report pursuant to Article 177 (2) (b) of the Constitution and Section 96 of the Representation of the People Act.
