In light of the recent report submitted by Chief Elections Officer (CEO), Keith Lowenfield to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), it is clear that he cannot be trusted to discharge his responsibilities in an impartial manner and should therefore be removed forthwith. Making this call moments ago was the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Guyana (FITUG). The body is lending its voice to an outpouring of calls for Lowenfield’s dismissal since his latest report, once again, seeks to give the coalition party the lead in the 2020 polls by way of inflated numbers.
In a statement to the press, FITUG said Lowenfield has undermined the trust placed in him as he has taken on, inexplicably, a partisan demeanour. The bidy said, “Whatever are his motivation/s, they ought not to supersede our democracy and the will of the Guyanese people. It is against this background that, we of the FITUG join the many voices to call for the Guyana Elections Commission to act proactively and have Mr Lowenfield, without further delay, removed from his post.”
FITUG categorically stated too that he must no longer have anything to do with the electoral process which has dragged on for more than four months now.
The Federation also stressed that no obstacle prevents GECOM from taking decisive action and declaring the results in keeping with the outcome of the national recount.
