An unoccupied army base which is located in Essequibo was this morning set alight.
The wooden army base which is located at Maria’s Lodge, Essequibo Coast is said to have been ignited around 03:00hrs today.
According to information, residents observed the fire and smoke emanating from the top flat of the wooden building and formed a bucket brigade. They were able to contain the blaze from spreading before the Guyana Fire Service arrived at the scene.
The building does not have electricity. The fire is being investigated.
