Region Four Returning Officer, Clairmont Mingo, was this morning slapped with four misconduct in public office charges related to the March 02, General, and Regional elections. He was ordered to post bail in the sum of $600,000.

The RO appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and was represented by Attorneys Darren Wade and Nigel Hughes.

Mingo and several other election officials were taken into custody last week as Police investigate allegations of electoral fraud. He is accused of attempting to alter the results of the election in favour of the APNU/AFC coalition by using concocted figures during the tabulation of votes for Region Four – the country’s largest voting district.

According to the particulars of the charge, Mingo, along with others on or about March 5, 2020, at the Command Centre for the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) on High and Hadfield Streets, Georgetown, uttered to the Chief Elections Officer (CEO), Keith Lowenfield, the results for Region Four, knowing it to be forged, with intent to defraud the people of Guyana.

Mingo has to also lodge his passport and report to the Police every Friday at 9:00hrs. The RO will make another court appearance on September 25.
