A 37-year-old vendor of 72 Second Street, Craig, East Bank Demerara (EBD), who allegedly chopped a man to his neck last Saturday after he asked him to move his cart, was today charged with murder.
Kendrick Shepherd appeared at the Golden Grove/Diamond Magistrate’s Court before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman, where the murder charge was read him.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which stated that on August 28, 2020, at Craig, East Bank Demerara, he murdered Kishan Persaud, 29, called “Rocky.”
He was remanded to prison until September 22, 2020, for report.
According to reports, Persaud was driving motorcar, PKK 8911, headed in the eastern direction along Busbie Dam, and as he was about to turn into First Street, he was confronted by the accused who was blocking the road with a cart.
Persaud then exited his vehicle and asked the accused to remove his cart to allow him to pass.
The accused allegedly refused, and the two got into an argument. The accused, being annoyed, then allegedly armed himself with a cutlass and dealt Persaud a chop to his neck before making good his escape. The injured man then drove himself to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he died about 22:30 hours while receiving medical treatment.
