Twenty-one-year-old Jamaine Jacobs of Lot 7 Uitvlugt Estate Road West Coast Demerara, who was found with 128 grams of marijuana in a pair of boots, has been jailed for 18 months.
Jacobs pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on September 2, 2020, at 70KM Police Check Point, he had in his possession 128 grams of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. He was sentenced to 18 months behind bars together with a fine of $192,000.
The young man appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert via Skype at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
Facts in the matter stated that on September 2, last, at about 23:28 hrs, ranks were on duty at the 70KM Police Check Point when the occupants of a motor pick-up GSS, which was en route to Big Hope Backdam Waini River, was subjected to a search.
As a result, Corporal Batson instructed the occupants to disembark the pick-up with their personal belongings to be searched, but nothing illegal was found.
A further search was carried out in the pick-up, and in a pair of long gray boots, a quantity of seeds, leaves, and stems wrapped in transparent plastic was found in the right side boots. The occupants were questioned, and Jacobs admitted ownership of the narcotics.
