Director of Prisons, Gladwin Samuels said that an additional quarantine facility has been established at the Lusignan Prison to house positive COVID-19 inmates. This follows the confirmation of two positive cases at the prison on Tuesday last.
“Another quarantine facility has been established so that persons who test positive for the coronavirus can be separated and treated away from the rest of the prison population,” Samuels said in a press release.
The Prisons Director also indicated that in partnership with the Ministry of Health, testing has started with inmates who were identified as having had contact with those who tested positive.
“Systematically, the rest of the prison population, including staff will be tested. The Ministry of Health has also come on board to aid with the daily sanitisation of the facility, which will be done using chemicals prescribed by the Ministry. This sanitisation, which has commenced, will be done thrice daily,” Samuels stated.
A team of doctors and nurses has been deployed to the prison to complement the prison medical team and provide training to ensure the sanitisation exercises are done efficiently.
