Police are investigating a serious accident which occurred yesterday about 17:30 hrs involving a motor car driven by a 38-year-old resident of La Bonne Intention, East Coast Demerara and a 6-year-old resident of Nonpareil, ECD.
The incident occurred on the Nonpareil Access Road.
Investigations revealed that the motorcar was proceeding east along the said public road, when in the vicinity of a shop, the driver observed an individual running from north to south and into the path of the motor car. As a result, the left side front of the vehicle collided with the pedestrian, who fell onto the roadway, receiving injuries.
The child was picked up in a conscious condition by public spirited citizens and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he was admitted in a stable condition.
The driver who fled the scene was later arrested and is currently in police custody assisting with the investigation. A breathalyzer test was conducted on him and his blood alcohol content was .000%, police say.
