The Alliance For Change (AFC) says that there are no plans afoot to align itself with the governing People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C).

These allegations began to surface following the resignation of the AFC’s General Secretary, the former Public Infrastructure Minister, David Patterson purportedly over the hogging of top positions in two Regional Democratic Organs by the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) – AFC’s Coalition partner.

The AFC said today that it remains committed to its principles of liberal democracy and the advancement of coalition politics as the best solution for Guyana’s ethnically diverse make-up.

The Coalition managed to win three of the 10 electoral districts during the March 2020 Elections. It was understood that the Chairmanship of these Regional Democratic Councils (RDC) would go to the APNU, while the Vice Chair positions would be taken up by the AFC.

But that was not the case when APNU officials were elected Chair and Vice Chair for Region Four’s Council.

The AFC said that an emergency meeting of the Party’s National Executive Council (NEC) has been scheduled for Sunday, October 4th to discuss the way forward. The NEC is the highest decision making forum of the Party in between National Conference of the Party.
