Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred about 5:15hrs today at Sheriff and Dadanawa Streets, Campbellville involving a car driven by a 43-year-old, Mocha, East Bank Demerara man, and motorcyclist, Deon Martin Monize, age 68, of East La Penitence, Georgetown.
Enquiries disclosed that the motorcar was proceeding north along the western lane on Sheriff Street, while motor cycle# CF 9989 was proceeding south along the eastern lane on the said street. As both vehicles approached Dadanawa street, the car turned east and reportedly collided with the motorcyclist.
As a result of the collision, the cyclist was flung into the eastern gutter on Sheriff Street. He was picked up in an unconscious condition by the driver and some public spirited citizen, and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
He was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty. The body was then taken to the Memorial Gardens Mortuary and is awaiting Post Mortem examination. The driver of the car is presently in police custody assisting with the investigation.
