Police are investigating a wounding committed on a 15-year-old Student of New Amsterdam Berbice, by a forty-one-year-old man. The incident occurred yesterday at about 18:00hrs.
Enquires disclosed that the teen and a friend were standing at a street when the suspect, who was passing, told the 15-year-old that his mother, who is a nurse, has Covid -19. An argument and scuffle ensued.
It is alleged that during the physical altercation, the suspect pulled out an ice picker from the waist of his pants and stabbed the victim to his left side chest.
The victim was escorted to New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty who admitted him as a patient. Guyana Standard understands that the victim is undergoing treatment and his condition is regarded as serious.
The suspect has since been arrested and is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
