Forty-eight-year-old Maxwell Usher, who was charged on March 24, 2020, for murdering his ex-lover and her partner, was today further remanded to prison.
Usher first appeared in the Linden Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Wanda Fortune on March 24, 2020, and was not required to plead to the capital offence of murder.
It is alleged that on March 17, 2020, he murdered 48-year-old Imogene Gordon and her partner Royston John. They sustained multiple stab wounds to their bodies and died at the scene.
During today’s hearing, there was power outage at the prison, which prevented the prosecution from disclosing statements. As a result, an application for an adjournment date was set for November 16, 2020.
The bodies of Gordon, of Lot 177 Prosville, Wismar, Linden, and John, of East Berbice- Corentyne, were discovered at about 21:00h on March 17 at the woman’s Prosville home with multiple stab wounds after Police were summoned to the scene.
According to information received, shortly after the couple retired to bed, the suspect allegedly broke into the house and began attacking the couple with a knife. John was first attacked and killed.
By the time neighbours called the police after hearing the couple’s scream for help, the Usher had already killed the duo and escaped from the premises. The police found a kitchen knife at the crime scene.
Reports are that the woman and her ex-partner had separated a few months prior after he physically assaulted her.
