The charred remains of a husband and wife were on Tuesday evening removed from a bedroom in the upper flat of their Lot 1139 Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD) home.
The dead couple has been identified as 35-year-old Cindy Moses and 34-year-old Leeroy King of Lot 1139 Second Phase Eccles, EBD.
According to the Police, the house was reportedly set alight by King at around 21:00h following a domestic dispute.
Guyana Standard understands that the two were heard having a heated argument in the yard.
The couple then went into the house where the argument continued.
Soon after, neighbours said that they saw smoke emanating from the house and immediately called the Guyana Police Force (GPF). By this time, the upper flat of the two-storey house was engulfed in flames.
Speaking with Guyana Standard, the dead woman’s brother, Anthony Moses, relayed that he was home when he got the tragic news.
He added that his sister and King would usually have domestic issues, but he usually does not intervene since they would sort out their differences.
He described his sister as a very private person.
The couple has been together for the past two years. He is a father of three from a previous relationship.
The couple was expected to take up full residency at the house on Friday. The probe into the fire is ongoing.
