A drug eradication exercise conducted by ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Friday at Haraculli Creek in the Berbice River, Region Six (East Berbice – Corentyne), unearthed a twelve-acre cultivation which had an estimated street value of $220 million.
During the more than 13 hours of operation, the team headed by two gazetted officers and sixteen other ranks found and destroyed approximately forty thousand plants on twelve-acre cultivation.
Police said that an additional plot of land was prepared for cultivation at the time of operation, and sixty kilograms of harvested cannabis and three camps were found.
The fields, camps, and dried cannabis were all destroyed by fire. In addition, Police stated that no one was found at the time of the operation, but efforts are ongoing to trace the ownership of the land in the view of instituting charges.
