Police are investigating a mining pit accident which resulted in the death of 26-year-old, Erroll Ramitt called “Tushi”, a porkknocker of Turn Basin, Port Kaituma, North West District (NWD).
The incident occurred at Arena Backdam, NWD on Sunday last.
Initial enquiries revealed that about 14:30hrs, Ramitt was in the pit operating the “marrack” engine when a piece of land slid and covered him.
Immediately following the incident, the victim’s colleagues commenced digging which took them about an hour to get him out when they observed that he was motionless.
The police were summoned, responded and immediately commenced investigations.
The body was transported to the Port Kaituma Hospital and pronounced dead by a Doctor on duty.
