A porter, who allegedly dealt a Medi-Care Pharmacy guard several lashes about his body during the course of a robbery, was on Tuesday charged with his murder.
25-year-old Shawn Small of D’’anrade Street, Newtown Kitty, was hauled before Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which stated that on November 5, 2020, at New Market Street, Cummingsburg, Georgetown, he murdered Bharrat Dass.
On the day in question, at about 05:30 hrs, Dass was found by one of his sons on the back steps of his workplace. He was battered and lying on blood-soaked cardboard.
He was picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) but succumbed to his injuries on November 11, 2020, while receiving medical attention.
However, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) managed to apprehend three suspects who were last seen with Dass on the night he was severely beaten and robbed.
Lawmen managed to single out the prime suspect, and Small was charged.
Magistrate Mc Gusty, after listening to the facts, remanded Small to prison until December 8, 2020.
