Prisons Director, Gladwin Samuels has clarified that only two prisoners have escaped the Lusignan jailhouse last week, and not three as was previously communicated to the media.

Further to the Press Release naming three (03) prisoners who escaped from the Lusignan Prison (Holding Bay) on November 21, 2020, a detailed, forensic re-check of the names of the prisoners officially recorded in the location’s records against the names given by prisoners during the physical muster held as soon as the escape was discovered has revealed that two (02) prisoners (not three (03) escaped.
The two (02) escapees are: Phillip Jhagroo [and] Donald Baird.
The Guyana Prison Service regrets the error.
