A 27-year-old man is now a patient at the Linden Hospital Complex after he was reportedly chopped by an acquaintance during a row over a mobile phone on Wednesday.
Errol Chand of 437 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, is reportedly in a serious but stable condition. The tragedy occurred at about 17:15hrs on the day in question.
Based on information received, at 28 Miles Unamco Road, Berbice River, Chand had loaned the suspect a mobile phone to make a call.
Chand requested the phone after the call since it belonged to someone else. However, the suspect reportedly got annoyed and dealt Chand several lashes with a piece of wood.
But Chand managed to run a few distances, but the suspect pursued him with a cutlass and dealt him several chops about the body. He then made good his escape.
The injured man was picked up and rushed to the Kwakwani Hospital Complex but was later transferred to the Linden Hospital Complex. The suspect is currently on the run and investigations are ongoing.
