A 35-year-old housewife is in a critical condition at the New Amsterdam Hospital after being stabbed multiple times by her reputed husband on Wednesday.
The woman has been identified as Rajwattie Punie, called “Shakira” of lot 105 Letter Kenny Village, Corentyne, Berbice. The incident occurred at about 13:05hrs on the day in question.
According to information received, Punie and her reputed husband were engaged in an argument in the lower flat of their two-storey house.
Shortly after the argument, the couple’s 13-year-old son ventured downstairs and saw his mother with bloodstains on her clothes and skin while his father had a kitchen knife in his hands.
The teenager reportedly told lawmen that his mother had wounds on her abdomen, hands, and feet.
Following the incident, the suspect reportedly walked out of the yard with the knife and made good his escape.
Punie was then taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital by relatives, where she was seen and examined by a Doctor on duty. She was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where she was treated and admitted as a patient. Her condition is regarded as severe.
Police said that checks for the suspect proved futile, but investigations are ongoing.
