Police are on the hunt for a Private Soldier attached to the Guyana Defence Force (G.D.F), stationed at Mabaruma, after he allegedly tossed marijuana at Joint Services Patrol and made good his escape.
Guyana Standard understands that at about 20:40hrs on Saturday, ranks from the Guyana Police Force (GPF) along with a party of ranks from the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) were on mass patrol duty.
While in the vicinity of Kumaka Water Front, North West District, they observed an identifiable male.
According to the GPF, the man was questioned and told lawmen that he is a Private Soldier attached to the Guyana Defence Force (G.D.F), stationed at Mabaruma.
“The suspect was standing on the road smoking what appeared to be a cannabis cigarette,” GPF said.
Police then approached him and requested to conduct a search for guns, ammunition, or anything prohibited since he was observed carrying a black purse around his neck.
But instead, the suspect pulled out a transparent plastic from his purse and tossed it to the ground, and made good his escape. Ranks then pursued him, but their efforts proved futile.
Police retrieved the transparent plastic and, upon checking, observed a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis. Police took possession of the suspected cannabis and lodged it at the Mabaruma Police Station.
The suspected cannabis was weighed and amounted to 56 grams.
The ranks made efforts to contact the suspect at the Military Base at Mabaruma North West District, but that proved futile. Investigations are ongoing.
