Police are investigating a fire of unknown origin which resulted in the death of Roy Rajbanse, age 61. The incident occurred sometime between December 26 and 27 at Rajbanse’s Jackson Creek Corentyne, Berbice home.
Enquiries revealed that Rajbanse was last seen yesterday about 16:00hrs in the company of a farmer from Moleson Creek consuming alcohol and smoking cigarettes.
Sometime later, both men became intoxicated, and parted ways.
Today, about 06:20hrs, persons were passing on the access road when they observed the fire, raised an alarm and notified the Police and the Guyana Fire Service. The fire was extinguished moments later.
Subsequently, Rajbanse’s charred body was discovered, and escorted to the Skeldon Hospital. He was declared dead by a doctor on duty. The body is presently at the Baileys Funeral Home home awaiting a Post Mortem Examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
