A Chinese national was on Monday robbed of $330,000 in cash and an Apple iPhone 7 valued at $100,000 by three armed men.
The victim has been identified as Shoa Mei Li of Reliance Settlement, East Canje, Berbice. The incident occurred at about 21:00 hrs.
Guyana Standard understands that Mei Li is the proprietor of Su Ping Chinese Restaurant.
According to information reaching this publication, Mei Li was bathing her son when her husband, Cap Zao Kai, heard a noise coming from the south of their yard.
He made checks, saw one of the bandits armed with a gun, and immediately ran into the restaurant and locked the door.
The Police said that all three of the bandits then approached Mei Li and dealt her several lashes to her head with a knife. They then took her to the living quarters and demanded that she hand over her money – which she did.
They then removed her Apple I-phone that was charging and ransacked her house. The victim allegedly heard someone else talking, and the men suddenly left and jumped the southern fence and made good their escape.
The Police were subsequently summoned but made no arrest. Investigations are ongoing.
