A Director from Atlantic Fuels Inc. was this morning slapped with a false declaration charge.
67-year-old Eugene Gilbert was today hauled before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The Guyana Revenue Authority Authority (GRA) is alleging that on November 12, 2020, at its Camp Street, Georgetown Headquarters, Atlantic Fuels Inc, caused to be made and subscribed a false declaration on invoice number 100 valuing $100,000, for customs declaration reference number GY 410C, contrary to the Customs Act, Chapter 82:01.
Gilbert pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on $300,000 bail. He is expected to make another court appearance on February 21, 2021.
Atlantic Fuel Inc., which is owned by Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Guyana Water Inc (GWI), Dr. Richard Van West Charles, was granted an import/export and store fuel licence in 2016.
This is not the first false declaration the company has made. In fact, last year January, the company was brought to the fore for falsifying two invoices.
