After facing harsh criticism last year from the PPP/C Administration for failing to honour its work obligations on its Demerara and Corentyne blocks, CGX Energy Inc., has appointed a Drilling Director, Kevin Lacy, in hopes of changing this state of affairs.
CGX said that Mr. Lacy has extensive experience (40 years) in oil and gas operations and drilling in many international basins, especially offshore. Guyana Standard understands that his career started with Chevron in 1980 where he rose through the management ranks working in the Gulf of Mexico (“GoM”), China, Angola, Europe, North Sea and the US. His last role with Chevron was as the Vice President of Global Drilling and Completions leading the post-Texaco and Unocal merger efforts to integrate and apply drilling best practices. CGX said he is a recognized industry leader in improving safety and drilling performance and applying technology within a disciplined planning and execution process for complex and remote wells.
Despite failing to honour its work commitments last year, CGX was still granted a one-year extension by the government to drill its exploration well on the Corentyne Block. That deadline comes to an end on November 27, 2021.
The oil company which is in a joint venture partnership with Frontera Energy said it has remained committed to completing its exploratory commitments in full, despite operational activities in Guyana being severely affected for much of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
