A 25-year-old mother, who had allegedly beaten her daughter and dumped her in a swamp on December 13, 2020, was today slapped with an attempt to murder charge.
Drupattie Balkarran, also known as “Natasha,” of Gord Bananen Land, East Canje, was hauled before Magistrate Renita Singh in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court.
The court heard that 6-year-old Jenita Ramsarran was found battered and submerged in a swampy area by her grandfather on December 13.
Following the incident, Balkarran was taken into custody, where she admitted that she dealt the child several blows with a piece of wood.
The child was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) in an unconscious state. She regained consciousness some three days later.
After listening to the case, Magistrate Singh granted Balkarran bail in the sum of $300,000 and ordered that she stays one hundred feet from the child. The matter was transferred to Reliance Magistrate’s Court for disclosure on January 27, 2021.
