Renovations at the Palms Geriatric Home are complete and the facility is now capable of accommodating 240 residents.
Whentworth Tanner, Director of Social Services at the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security made this disclosure yesterday, during an interview with the Department of Public Information (DPI).
The renovations, which include the completion of two new wards, have increased the Palms’ capacity by 50.
“We were operating at about 170 persons because of the two wards not being operable. Those two wards combined, especially in keeping with our COVID-19 guidelines can accommodate 25 persons a piece, so our capacity has increased by 50,” he said.
Tanner highlighted that the Palms continues to implement the guidelines to ensure that all residents remain safe.
The rehabilitation works at the Palms were completed in December 2020.
Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud, during an interview with the DPI in November, had said the Ministry intends to ensure that the facility can properly accommodate all residents. (Extracted from the Department of Public Information)
