A 3-year-old girl was among six pedestrians who were struck down by a motor car on Sunday.
Those injured are Lilowattie Barnabas, 29; Alana Grant, 15; Rajin Mahendranauth, 8; Esha Mahendranauth, 8; Mesha Margar, 3; Tanesha Mahendranauth, 7.
The accident occurred at Canal No. 1 Access Road, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
Enquiries revealed that a motorcar driven by an unknown driver was proceeding west along the southern side of Canal No. 1 Access Road when the driver allegedly attempted to overtake a vehicle on the left and lost control and collided with the pedestrians who were on the southern side of the grass parapet.
As a result of the accident, the pedestrians who sustained multiple injuries to their bodies were picked up and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital. They were admitted in stable conditions.
The driver of the motor car who escaped from the scene is currently being sought. The investigation is ongoing.
