The Guyana Police Force is probing a double murder which occurred last night at #43 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
Dead are: Mahendra Ramator, called “Sunny”, a 43-year-old labourer and Suendra (only given) (age unknown). Both men resided at #43 Village.
The suspect has only been identified as a 49-year-old farmer. The incident occurred sometime between 21:30hrs and 22:30hrs at the #43 Public Road.
Enquiries disclosed that the suspect was imbibing alcohol in a yard when an argument ensued between two individuals, during which time, the suspect armed himself with a knife, exited the yard and approached the now-dead men. They were standing on the said public road amongst other individuals.
Police said that the suspect began inflicting stabs on the duo.
The victims were taken to receive medical attention and were pronounced dead on arrival.
Sukamattie Richmond, a 40-year-old housewife and Anthony Persaud, 30, were also injured. Their condition is listed as serious.
The suspect was arrested and is presently in custody assisting with the investigation. A knife, suspected to be the murder weapon, was recovered at the scene and lodged as evidence.
Investigations are ongoing.
