Health Minister, Dr Frank Anthony has said that a special committee has been established to monitor side effects of those health workers who received COVID-19 vaccines.
“We have a National Committee that has been set up to do Pharmacovigilance, meaning to monitor for any adverse events that might occur and once we are able to detect it we will then be able to explain to people how to resolve it and in some cases what actions to be taken and so forth,” the minister said during today’s update.
Guyana began vaccinating its frontline health workers four days ago, and so far, over 600 have received the jab. These vaccines are a gift from Barbados of 3,000 Oxford AstraZeneca vaccines.
The Government of Guyana has proposed the sum of $750M to support the rolling out of COVID-19 vaccines, Senior Finance Minister, Dr Ashni Singh disclosed during his budget presentation last Friday.
