Police are investigating the death of a 29-year-old miner of Sand Creek Village, South Rupununi, Region 9. The tragedy occurred about 11:30hrs last Sunday at Kumung Kumung Backdam, Puruni River, Region Seven.
According to information received, the victim, Manley Williams, was seen swimming in an old mining pit approximately 40 feet from the main camp, before suddenly going under water.
A subsequent search by the now deceased’s brother resulted in the discovery of his motionless body in the pit.
The body is being escorted to Bartica as the investigation continues.
