It was made public before that the former Minister of Telecommunications, Cathy Hughes took money from her Ministry and paid her company, videomega productions, to execute public relations work. However, today, Guyana Standard was informed just how much money she utilized.
According to documents seen by this publication, Hughes took over $6M from the public purse and funneled it directly to her company. She signed approving each payment.
Documents suggest that Hughes even paid VideoMega to boost the Facebook page of her Ministry. Also, VideoMega was paid to place ads in local newspapers. This is despite the fact that the Ministry had a public relations Officer on staff.
Of note is the fact that Hughes’ company staffers used to write the public relations officer, Majorie Chester to inform her of public relations work that it did for the Ministry.
