A 73 year-old housewife is Guyana’s latest road fatality. The victim is Miriam Johnson of Lot 8 Eastville, Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
The accident occurred today, about 06:00 hrs on the Annandale Public Road, ECD involving motorcar #PRR6925 which was driven by 22 year-old fisherman, Danram Somwaru of Unity, ECD.
Enquires disclosed that the motorcar was proceeding east along the northern side of Annandale Public Road when it was alleged by the driver, that he observed the Johnson standing in the centre of the road.
He alleged that Johnson ran in a northernly direction across the road and into his path, causing the left side front of his vehicle to collided with her.
As a result of the collision, she fell onto the roadway, where she received injuries to her head and other parts of the body. She was picked up in an unconscious state by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was seen and examined by a doctor on duty who pronounced her dead.
Notice of intended prosecution was served on the driver who submitted to an alcohol breath test which read .00%BAC. He remains in custody as the investigation continues
