Nzube Zkegwuonu, 30, a Nigerian National and Kevin Smith, 25, an entrepreneur, were this morning placed on bail after being charged with conspiracy to defraud.
The pair appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
It is alleged that between February 1 and March 15, at Georgetown, they conspired with persons to obtain $3,000,000 from Denita Bonnet.
They were not required to plea to the charge. The two were represented by attorney-at-law Ronald Daniels who told the court that the two defendants are innocent and currently out on $100,000 station bail.
He said that Zkegwuonu is a Nigerian who is married to a Guyanese and is currently awaiting his citizenship.
The prosecutor did not object to bail, however, he asked that conditions be attached. He asked that the pair report to the Criminal investigation Department headquarters twice each month and that they lodge their passports with the court.
The conditions were ordered and they were placed on $100,000 bail, each.
The matter was adjourned until April 14.
