24-year-old Mark Anthony Henry, the brother of Joel Henry who was murdered along with his cousin Isiah, was today remanded when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Henry was not required to plead to the charge which alleges that he murdered Surojdeo Deochand on March 30th at Number 3 Village West Coast Berbice.
He was represented by attorney at law Nigel Hughes and was remanded until April 28.
Deochand’s body was found in his Number 3 Village, West Coast Berbice home with multiple chop wounds. The 68-year-old pensioner was pronounced dead on arrival at the Fort Wellington Hospital. According to relatives, Deochand suffered a severed right hand along with injuries to his face and belly.
Guyana Standard understands that Deochand was one of the persons initially arrested for the murders of the Henry boys whose bodies were found last September in the backlands of Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice. However, after being held for 72 hours, Deochand, who resided next door to Joel Henry, was released from police custody.
