With every major developmental project led by the People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) during its post-2015 period in office, be it the Marriott Hotel, the Berbice Bridge, or the Hope Canal, Vice President, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo has observed Kaieteur News Publisher, Glenn Lall, to be outrageously critical.
This, Jagdeo believes, is irrespective of the fact that these very projects have significantly supported the country’s growing industries and redounded in benefits for all Guyanese.
What the former President has also noted is that Lall’s nitpicking disposition has extended itself to another crucial PPP/C project which seeks to slash electricity costs by more than 50 percent. In light of Lall’s history, Jagdeo said he is only left to conclude that the Kaieteur News Publisher does not care about the well-being of average Guyanese since “his bread is well buttered.”
The Vice President said, “You know, Glenn Lall used to say the same thing about the Marriot, (that it is a bad project). Now, it’s about the gas power plant, oh, PPP building this big bad project, and Jagdeo going after this. But our objective is to get cheaper power to our people. He used to say that about the Marriot, how I own the Marriot and that it was a white elephant. This is the most profitable Marriot that we have now, in this hemisphere.”
Had the PPP/C heeded the “doom and gloom” message of Lall and others like Chartered Accountant, Christopher Ram, the Vice President said there would be no Hope Canal or Berbice Bridge.
The former President added, “…They don’t have any concern about people. Their bread is well buttered. Glenn Lall could afford his electricity bill, but you talk to the family, the mother in Canje who now can’t afford to pay electricity. She wants cheaper electricity.”
Jagdeo believes that once the gas-to-shore project comes on stream by 2024, high energy costs would finally become a thing of the past.
