A labourer is now in the custody of police after stabbing his roommate to the chest with a knife following an argument that ensued while they were drinking on Friday night.
Dead is 48-year-old Khemraj Sukhna of Coconut Dam, Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara who was also a labourer. Police indicated to the media moments ago that the deceased and the suspect were drinking partners and lived at the same address. About 17:00hrs on Friday, Guyana Standard understands that the deceased and the suspect were imbibing at Coconut Dam, Cane Grove, ECD and had an argument which resulted in a fight.
The suspect then left the scene to go home. About 21:30hrs, the deceased went home and met the suspect where an argument ensued again. The suspect, in a fit of rage, picked up a knife and stabbed the deceased twice – once to the right chest and the other to the left arm. Sukhna then collapsed on a mattress on the verandah.
About 02:40hrs today, Guyana Standard understands that the suspect went to the Cane Grove Police Station and reported that he and the deceased had a fight when he (deceased) fell on a knife and received injuries before becoming lifeless.
The suspect was arrested and taken to the scene where Sukhna was found. The scene was processed and a blood-stained knife, suspected to be the murder weapon, was found.
The body was escorted to the Lyken Funeral Parlour where it awaits a post mortem examination.
