Police in Region One (Barima-Waini) are investigating a simple larceny committed on Orin Fernandes, a 29-year-old Amerindian Toshao of Chinese Landing Village.
The robbery occurred sometime between 18:00hrs on Sunday 18th April, 2021 and 05:00hrs on Monday 19th April, 2021 at Chinese Landing, North West District.
The Toshao reportedly lost a 200 horsepower Yamaha outboard engine and boat valued at $4.5M.
Enquiries disclosed that Fernandes, on Sunday, at about 18:00hrs, secured his boat by means of rope at the back of his home about 100 feet away in a creek. On Monday at about 05:00hrs, he made checks and observed his boat and engine missing. The Toshao then made several checks in and around Chinese Landing where he received information from persons in the area as to the name of the suspect who reportedly cut the boat rope and was seen heading towards the Waini river with the vessel. The victim then made a report via cellular phone to Acquero Police Station.
Police are looking for the suspect, as well as the boat and engine.
Investigation is ongoing.
