The Environmental Assessment Board (EAB) of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced that it will be conducting a public hearing on Monday regarding appeals it received against a recent proposal by a company to establish a waste treatment facility for the oil sector.
The company in question is Global Oil Environment Services Guyana Inc., a joint venture partnership between JaParts Guyana and Global Oil ManagementGroup. The partners intend to build and operate a waste transfer, storage, treatment, and disposal facility at Block ‘X’ TE Huiste, Block I, T’ Huiste Coverden, East Bank Demerara. The hearing will be held at 16:00h/4:00 pm at the Soesdyke/Huiste Coverden Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC), Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara,In accordance with Section 18(3) of the Environmental Protection Act, the EAB is expected to conduct public hearings into all appeals submitted against the EPA’s decision not to require an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the project. Guyana Standard understands that the public hearing will involve representations from the appellants, the developer, and other key stakeholders; after which, the EAB will deliberate on the findings and prepare a report with its decision confirming or setting aside the EPA’s decision.
