Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred yesterday about 09:35hrs at the Liliendaal Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara.
The accident involved motorcycle, CK 2169, driven by Lancelot Giddings (deceased), a 26-year-old of Prince William Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara; 45-year-old pedestrian, Sheldon Booker of Bent Street, Georgetown and Motorcar PMM 309 driven by Mahendra Baldeo, age 31, of Shell Road, Kitty, Georgetown.
Enquiries disclosed that the motorcyclist, Giddings was proceeding west along the Liliendaal Railway Embankment while in the vicinity of Pump Road, Sheldon Booker (pedestrian) attempted to cross the road and walked into the path of the motorcycle which collided with him. As a result of the collision, the 45- year-old pedestrian fell onto the road and received injuries about his body.
The motorcyclist lost control and subsequently crashed into motorcar, PMM 309 which was proceeding in the opposite direction. The cyclist fell onto the roadway and received injuries about his body.
Both cyclist and pedestrian were picked up in unconscious states by Emergency Medical Technicians and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where the motorcyclist, Giddings was pronounced dead on arrival. At the time of this report, the pedestrian was receiving treatment for head injuries in the Critical Bay of the Accident and Emergency ward.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of the motorcar but no trace of alcohol was found.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage of the accident as investigations continue.
