Sandy Adonis, an 88-year-old La Parfaite Harmonie resident is
now dead after he was crushed by a trailer at the Avenue of the Republic, Georgetown, yesterday around 16:10hrs.

According to an eyewitness, motor lorry, GMM 3568 with Trailer TTT 5330, driven by Karan Balbad of La Parfaite Harmonie, was proceeding south along Avenue of the Republic when it came to a stop at the traffic light located at the intersection of Avenue of the Republic and Regent Street. It is further alleged by the eyewitness that a red motorcar (particulars unknown) stopped alongside the trailer of the motor lorry, when the pedestrian approached the left-front passenger side of the said vehicle and was interacting with the person in the passenger’s side.

As the traffic light changed to green, the motor lorry started to move off and the individual who was seated in the front passenger seat of the said red car, allegedly pushed Adonis. The 88-year-old fell backwards under the trailer which rolled over his body.

As a result, he received injuries to his head and other parts of his body. An Ambulance was summoned which arrived shortly on the scene with medical personnel who pronounced him dead.

The body was escorted to the Lyken Funeral Parlour where it is presently awaiting a Post Mortem Examination.

A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of the lorry and no trace of alcohol was found in his system. The driver remains in custody as further investigations are ongoing.
