Information regarding the motive is sketchy. But what is clear, is that the killing of 39-year-old Kuru Kururu Minibus Driver, Marcus Thomas was no accident. His assailants were deliberate in their efforts.

Three men, who are said to be the only suspects, were caught at Parika, East Bank Essequibo earlier today.

Reports reaching Guyana Standard suggest that Thomas met his demise as a consequence of a long-standing feud over a female. At least one of the three men now in custody for the killing of Thomas, was involved in an incident last year when he severely wounded the now dead man.

Thomas was reportedly killed on Tuesday last, around 18:30hrs, after the trio gained entry to his home by kicking open the door. The attackers were seen fleeing the home moments before Thomas stumbled onto his front yard calling for help. He then collapsed. The victim’s lifeless body was discovered with gaping wounds to several areas including his neck and wrists.

Police sources say that the suspects are known to the victim but made no mention of the relation. Guyana Standard understands that at least two of the assailants are related to Thomas’ romantic partner, Samantha (only name given).

According to reliable sources, the three men and Thomas had an altercation last August. A video seen by the Guyana Standard shows the aftermath of that August attack. A bloodied Thomas and another individual were seen in the back of a vehicle with severe lacerations about their bodies. Another video shows one of the men with his right ear partially severed and a chop to his forearm. The man can be heard saying that Samantha dealt him that blow that caused his injuries.

Commander Mahendra Siwnarine told Guyana Standard that both Thomas and the woman’s relatives were constantly in disagreement. He could not confirm the nature of the dispute, since the matter predates him taking up the commander post. He, however, said that based on the briefs he received, the two parties frequently disagreed. Thomas’ relatives claim to have no knowledge of what prompted that August altercation but believe that the murder is linked to that confrontation.

One of Thomas’ relatives posted to Facebook recently: The first time they try to kill my uncle and they walk free, now this time they kill him, what’s next?”

Guyana Standard was reliably informed that Thomas’ partner is with her mother somewhere in the North West District. Commander Siwnarine has confirmed that investigators have contacted her.
