Two Brazilian nationals were today remanded to prison for trafficking 453 kilograms of cocaine and entering Guyana illegally.
65-year-old Salim Nobrega De Alimser and 30-year-old Andre Pereira were hauled before Magistrate Alex Moore in the Springlands Magistrate’s Court and pleaded guilty to the charges.
During a virtual hearing this morning, Police Prosecutor Orin Joseph objected to bail as he noted that the accused are flight risks. They had confessed that the aircraft belongs to them.
The Magistrate heard that on May 20, 2021, a Brazilian-registered four-seater Bonanza Beechcraft crashed landed at Orealla, Region Six.
Law enforcement officers were dispatched to the scene, and two male foreign nationals were arrested, and the cocaine was found aboard the plane.
After listening to the facts of the matter, Magistrate Moore remanded the duo to prison until June 22, 2021.
