Four men who are facing illegal possession of guns and ammunition charges have been granted bail after denying the allegations.
Antonio Fraser, of ot 94 Durban Street, Keith Cains, of Lot 22 Durban Street Lodge, Tahj Fraser of Lot 47 Norton Street Lodge, and Brandon Baker, a taxi driver of Lot 85 Durban Street Lodge, were this morning arraigned before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts where they each were charged.
Antonio answered two charges and was placed on $200,000 bail for each of the charges. The first charge against Fraser states that on May 26, at Main Street, Georgetown, in the vicinity of Tower Suites Hotel, he had in his possession a 9 mm Glock 19 pistol, with serial number #FLD 741. It is also alleged that on the same date and at the same location, he had a suspected 9 mm ammunition. He entered not guilty pleas for both charges.
The other three men are facing two joint charges. Together, they are charged with having a .32 Taurus Pistol and two matching live rounds of ammunition in their position at Brickdam on the same date.
They pleaded not guilty and were each placed on $200,00 bail.
The four men are expected to lodge their passports with the court and return on June 25.
Guyana Standard understands that the three men were contacted by police who were acting on information at Brickdam, near the St Stanislaus High School.
The men identified Barker to be the driver of the vehicle they were sitting in at the time, 03:40 hrs. The police requested to conduct a search of the vehicle and the men obliged. This led to the unearthing of the items stated in the charge.
Meanwhile, the facts in the matter against Antonio states that the police also went to the location stated in the charges and saw Antonio who is a driver. They asked to conduct a search on his person.
During the search, the pistol was found while the ammunition was found in the crotch of his pants.
The men were taken to the Brickdam Police Station after being cautioned and told of the allegation.
