Police are investigating a robbery and assault which occurred last night at St. Ignatius Village, Central Rupununi.

The victims have been identified as an 18-year-old female teacher and her 26-year-old partner.

The three bandits carted off a quantity of silver and gold jewelry valued at $45,000, a music box valued at 20,000, and one Samsung cellphone.

Enquiries revealed that the pregnant victim was in bed with her partner when the three suspects – each armed with a cutlass – kicked down their front door and dealt several lashes and chops to the body of her partner who eventually escaped. His location and wellbeing are both unknown at this time.

The woman observed the perpetrators searching the house.

The men then used their machetes to destroy a bicycle valued at $35,000, a hammock valued at $5,000, and a black Honda XR motorcycle bearing registration #CG 4118.

The suspects then left the home and the victim discovered her cellphone and music box missing.

A report was made to the police and acting on information, a raid was conducted on three houses in Tabatinga, St. Ignatius Village and Lethem where four males were arrested including the three suspects.

They are presently in custody at the Lethem Police Station.

One Brazilian-made motorcycle was found and is presently lodged at Lethem Police Station pending investigations.
