Some 224,853 persons, or 46.2% of the adult population in Guyana have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, with 94,243 (19.4%) receiving both jabs, Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony has disclosed.
The regional breakdown of the vaccination rates are as follows:
Region One – 55.9%
Region Two – 42.4%
Region Three – 45.7%
Region Four – 47.8%
Region Five – 49.3%
Region Six – 54%
Region Seven – 45%
Region Eight – 29.6%
Region Nine – 43.5%
Region Ten – 14%
The minister also disclosed that while the ongoing flooding in Guyana has placed a damper on the government’s COVID-19 vaccination campaign, it has not stopped Region Seven health officials from ensuring it’s citizens are immunised. According to him, Bartica has commenced a house-to-house vaccination initiative.
Meanwhile, challenges to vaccination continue in other regions with tough terrain and above-normal deluge.
