A 36-year-old man, Sheldon Wilson of Hand-en-veldt, East Coast Demerara, lost his life yesterday after driving off the John Fernandes Wharf, Water Street.
The incident occurred around 12:30hrs.
Information received from the security of the said firm is that Wilson was the driver of motor truck GNN 7207.
On the date and time stated, he went to the said wharf to collect feed from a boat. After collecting the feed, Wilson began driving, however, the truck rolled over the rails and into the river.
Several persons jumped into the river to rescue the man, who was taken out by a labourer from John Fernandes wharf. Wilson was later taken to St Joseph Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Investigations are ongoing.
