A designer and a full-time University of Guyana student were this morning, cross charged with unlawful and malicious wounding.
Keisha Edwards, the owner of Shasha Designs, and UG student Melissa Calder, 25, were placed on $5,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan who presides at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The two women face a charge which states that on June 16, 2021, at Georgetown, they unlawfully and maliciously wounded each other.
According to the Court prosecutor, the two women sustained injuries after a misunderstanding happened. The court heard that the women pushed each other and had an exchange of words. The Court Prosecutor also told the Magistrate that the women received injuries as a result of the pushes. They were then placed on $5,000 bail and told to return to court on August 10.
Calder, who entered a not guilty plea, told the court that she made arrangements for Edwards to design a dress for her birthday. She said she was sent a photo of the dress prior to the fitting day and told Edwards that the dress was not what she asked for. She explained that she had already made a $30,000 downpayment for the dress and decided to ask for $20,000 to be refunded because the woman had already started the work.
However, Edwards tried to tell her that she could fix the dress to her liking. She said that on the day in question, she and Edwards were talking outside of the dress studio and when she attempted to enter the studio, Edwards pushed her and she pushed her back.
But according to Edwards, who also entered a not guilty plea, Calder was very upset and started saying that she would go to the police so she could get her refund. She said that the woman then pushed her.
