Two children, aged two and six were forced to witness the brutal beating of their grandmother to death by their father on Wednesday at the No. 3 Village, West Coast Berbice (WCB) home they all shared.

The older child, in the presence of her father who is the suspect, her uncle, and a pastor detailed the horrible ordeal to police.

The deceased, who is the owner of the house, was found dead in the hallway of the home and she has been identified as 64-year-old Teshwattie Jaglall called ‘Babo’ of Lot 4 in No.3 Village, West Coast Berbice (WCB).

This publication understands that the now-deceased woman had resided with her two grandkids along with her 41-year-old son Deonarine Dookhoo, a security guard, the alleged suspect.

According to information received, the six-year-old told cops that at 07:30hrs on the night in question Dookhoo, who is always in the habit of beating Jaglall for money, assaulted her grandmother again with a cutlass Wednesday night. He then left for work, taking the cutlass with him after putting his 2-year-old to sleep.

The child told cops that after her dad left, she tried to wake her grandma up but the woman was unresponsive, and she eventually fell asleep. She woke up the following morning and tried to wake her grandmother again but by that time her father had arrived home from work and then the police came.

Jaglall was discovered lying motionless on her right side in the hallway of her home clad in a black nightdress, with her head in the northern direction and her feet in the southern direction.
Visible marks were seen on Jaglall’s body on her right wrist; three on her right shoulder; two on her right finger; one on her elbow; one on her right eye and one in the middle of her head.

Further investigation at the crime scene was conducted, and a ‘shine cutlass’ without any bloodstain suspected to be the murder weapon was found on a table at the back of the house.
The child also told ranks that it was the same cutlass her father had used to beat the woman.
No forced entry was seen in the home of the deceased.

The pensioner’s battered body was removed and escorted to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty. Her remains were then taken to the Baileys Funeral Parlor awaiting an autopsy.

A neighbour who later spoke to media reps said, Dookhoo had approached and told her yesterday morning that three persons had broken into their home and beat his mother.

“He ask me if me hear anything and I said no, he then said, how three persons went in and kill the lady.” Dookhoo is currently in police custody, and an investigation is ongoing.
