A Recht-door-Zee, Parfaite Harmonie family was left traumatised after five bandits invaded their West Bank Demerara home around 03:30hrs today, police say.
Enquires disclosed that the victim, a 59-year-old businessman, and his wife were outside eating. During that time as his daughter took the garbage out at the front of the yard, she heard what sounded like a gunshot.
As a result, she ran back inside the yard, while five armed males who were all covered with face masks followed her into the yard.
One of the bandits, who was armed with a handgun, approached the victim and dealt him a lash to his head causing injuries. The businessman’s wife was ordered to hand over cash. She complied and brought out a small black haversack and gave it to the men.
After receiving the same, they relieved the victim and his wife of several other items and made good their escape on foot.
They carted off an undisclosed amount of cash, an S10 Samsung cellphone, valued at $40,000, an A10 S Plus cellphone valued $40,000, and a quantity of gold jewelry.
Investigations are ongoing.
